Travel, Survival and what else?...Shoes, Dawgs and Craniums!

First, I want to give a big "GET WELL SOON" shout out (do the proverbial "they" still say that?) to my 5-year-old neice Maggie...she has mono AND bronchitis...A little gift is on the way sweetie!

We survived the trip to Athens and back -- it was touch and go there for a minute. I thought I was going to have to get out the can opener if you know what I mean .... The mere sound of me reaching for it and perhaps the couple, "You wanna piece of me's?" hushed the arguing in the back for oh, say, one minute....but that one minute of peace was priceless. I am waiting for the parent of the year award to arrive in the mail any minute now.

Athens was great - Mimi and Pop are great too! Nephew Mick had already left when we arrived - Nolan and Collin were in a sugar/carb laden coma from all of the sweets, etc., that they injested during the week!

Of course, because it was a tax free weekend, we were compelled to shop (poor Mark got a chance to act as a chaffeur as usual to 4 shopping crazed females)....We pretty much hit pay dirt. I only bought 3 pair of shoes (and one of them were Jazzercise shoes - a business must have...) And, I did put one pair back thank you very much - it was only $4.99 and I resisted!! Can you believe it? They were cute too and yet, I slid that box into the rack in front of the cash register (with all of the chotchkes...sp?) Okay - I almost put them on the counter but I was overcome with the feeling that I was not going to succumb to the shopping bug... I was quite proud of myself. (And, the girls comments about how ugly the shoes were and the "hideous" square toes had NOTHING to do with my putting them back in the incorrect spot in the store...)

And, the shoes I did finally buy were bargains too so the adrenalin was really pumping! I actually put 3 shirts back on the rack too...I am learning shopping restraint. AND, the piece de la resistance (is that how you spell it) for my demonstration of shear will power was this....I did not (I repeat) I did not buy the Bulldawg high tops for myself....$19.99 and I didn't do it...I didn't even buy the Steve Madden sun glasses for $9.99. I think I have turned a shopping junkie corner.

Nolan has 3 official "G"s for his football helmet thanks to Pop! He is going to wear one of them (or probably all 3) proudly on his HUGE, adult-sized helmet even if he plays for the Gators, Yellow Jackets or Shame - I mean Gamecocks this year. He may even play for the Fightin' Irish but that "G" will be prominently displayed on his helmet - heck, we could probably run an entire advertising campaign for a major sponsor on the helmet AND include the "G" and other logo....Do you think Nolan will have a complex about his head size? He got it honestly - I have several planets orbitting mine so he was bound to be blessed with a head, in the classic words of Mike Myers, "like Sputnik."

How did I get from shoes, to Bulldawgs to head girth? Who knows...All I know is UGA is #13 in the AP pre-season poll (expect an update on SEC and the City by the way)....the Gators are #2....My friend Seminole-loving friend Kelly threw up in her mouth a bit about this one as did I. I don't consider #13 unlucky - it's just a starting point for the top!

Shoes, dawgs and a kid with a head like his mother's (and one only a mother and Mimi can love)....life doesn't get any better than this!
